Pet Therapy

Whenever we hear a guest say they miss their pets, we know RMHC can help! Dog Therapy and Bunny Therapy promote social and emotional support provided by specially trained professionals, both the animals and handlers. A rotating team of handlers bring in their therapy-certified dogs of all sizes and backgrounds to the delight of our guests – every visit is different! In 2016, our certified therapy bunnies are two of only three PetPartners therapy rabbits in Wisconsin and 78 in the nation providing a unique therapy experience. We are excited to provide such a unique therapy experience for our guest families. Pet Therapy visits are scheduled regularly each month in the evening hours.

Meet Gwen Clark, our volunteer therapy dog coordinator!

Gwen Clark is the Therapy Dog Program Coordinator for Ronald McDonald House. Her love for animals stems from childhood as she grew up with Labradors and Horses. Gwen knew early on the impact and tremendous difference dogs make on the lives of so many.

Gwen has been training dogs and doing therapy work for over 30 years. Her dogs have achieved top honors of certifications and therapy titles with well over 1,000 therapy dog visits. Currently she has 3 therapy certified Labradors named Boone, Hoss and Riggs. Gwen and her dogs have participated in therapy programs in children’s hospitals, pediatric rehab centers, boys and girls clubs, at risk youth centers, youth camps, school reading programs, and worked extensively with police & fire fighters for children after trauma, as well as child protection centers, safe houses and shelters.

Gwen says that she continues to be amazed at what these four-footed therapists give….”it is something special to enhance the health and well-being of others. There is an immediate response to tail wagging greetings, wet noses, and warm paws & these dogs bring sparkle to what can be a sterile day.”

Therapy dogs bring relaxation, pleasure & comfort. Gwen’s passion for dogs has, she explains, “lead me down such an incredible path working with children & their families. I look forward to many days ahead at Ronald McDonald House with our ever growing therapy dog program and sharing the unconditional love of our furry companions!”
