Special Edition Blog: Today Spring Arrived!

March 20th, 2017

Today spring arrived!

At 5:29 am the sun crossed the celestial equator marking the special moment of the Vernal Equinox. The sun rose at 6:55 am and will set at 7:04 pm, giving us almost equal hours of daylight and night time. This is the time to identify due east and due west. Note where the sun rises and sets on the horizon today. Our days will continue to grow longer and warmer, signaling birds and butterflies to return and plants to begin a new cycle of growth.

Our Dutch Master Daffodils in the heart shaped garden are 6” high. Our Adam and Donald Wyman Crabapples are bursting to blossom. Listen for Red-Winged Blackbirds calling “tsert” or “teeteeteeteetee,” Robins calling “cheerily-cherrio” They are looking for partners and a perfect place to build a nest.

Outside the Green Room door smiles a container of brave Pansies, harbingers of blooms to come.

In Family Garden Education, we planted miniature gardens of Cress, Mustard seed and Micro-greens. Sure, we can snip them for salads and sandwiches but the thrill comes in seeing them sprout and grow every day.

Hope lives here.

The Garden reminds us to embrace the moment, not regret past blooms nor wish away the promise of now.

Watch each day for changes. Green becomes our favorite color!
